Our History

Founded from tradition, artistry, and passion

Founded on a tradition of excellence, Hendrickson’s Fine Jewelers has upheld the art of jewelry craftsmanship for generations. Dean, who began custom designing at a young age and taught himself to hand-carve wax jewelry, co-founded the business with his mother, Donna, and now continues the legacy with the help of two of his kids and niece.

Our dedication to artistry and passion is at the heart of every piece we create. Dean’s creativity and skill ensure that each design is not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful, reflecting the enduring Hendrickson’s legacy.

Why We are Different

Timeless artistry and exceptional service

At Hendrickson’s Fine Jewelers, we take pride in combining timeless artistry with exceptional customer service. Our skilled artisans meticulously craft each piece with the utmost care, while our dedicated team ensures that your experience is as personalized and memorable as the jewelry itself. From the moment you walk through our doors, we’re here to guide you through every step, making sure your vision becomes a reality.

Dean Hendrickson

I was raised in McCall, Idaho. When I was 12 years old, my parents bought me a silver jewelry making kit. Designing jewelry has been in my blood ever since. I am an artist at heart. The challenge and creativity are what inspires me to come to the office every day. Some say I work too much…but I love it, so I hardly feel like I am working.

In 1984, I decided to make jewelry a career rather than just a hobby. I went to a diamond setting school and the following July I opened Hendrickson’s Fine Jewelry. I can estimate that I have made close to 12,000 rings over the years. With every ring I’ve made, I’ve learned something new. It has allowed me to unleash my creativity. I love the challenge to create and repair jewelry. I never get tired of making people smile when I unveil the creation that I have made for them.

There are many jewelry stores. What makes Hendrickson’s unique is that every one of us has a background as jewelers. We are not just salespeople. My goal is to make sure that your job is done correctly. All our repairs and customs are done on the premises.

My family is the reason I live. I have 5 beautiful children that are the light of my life. And my wife Sarah shows me every day that there is more to life than work.

Sarah Eshelman

I was born and raised in Kuna and Melba, Idaho. My local roots have allowed me to help people in our community with all their jewelry needs since 1993. I have always felt that my customers are more like friends and I strive to be more than just your jeweler. My job isn’t just a job…I love doing what I do!

In 1993, I went to Memphis, TN to learn to be a goldsmith (bench jeweler). I believe that having some background in the actual work makes me better at what I do. Understanding how things are put together makes it easier for me to explain what needs to be done to make your piece of jewelry perfect. Nowadays, I leave the actual work to the guys, as I missed being up front, helping my friends with their birthdays, anniversaries and engagements. My passion is YOU! Seeing your smile when you come in and the bigger smile when you leave– that is what I live for!

-Why is jewelry so special to me?

Jewelry is one of the few things in life that can be handed down from generation to generation. You can mold it to your style and still have grandmas diamond or dad’s gold. The heirloom quality of jewelry is what I love. After 40 years, my father’s wedding band was worn out. He bought a new one and gave me his original one. I melted it down and fused it to the back of my cross pendant. Now my pendant has incredible sentimental value. Jewelry inspires me. In my free time…I love to be in the mountains. Digging in the dirt to find rocks or occasionally finding a crystal here and there. My husband, Dean is my rock. I love just hanging out with him. Life is easy and relaxing. I feel blessed to have him in my life.

I look forward to being “Your Personal Jeweler”.

Bryce Hendrickson

Store Manager

Hi I’m Bryce Hendrickson, Dean’s second youngest child, but only son. Having been raised right here in the Treasure Valley, I know there’s a lot that makes our area one of the best places to live. From the foothills to the Boise greenbelt, there are hidden gems to explore no matter the season. Being raised by a local jeweler, I grew up around a variety of rare gems. From sapphires, rubies to diamonds and pearls, I know that there are no two identical stones out there. Part of what makes this industry so exciting is that along with every stone being unique, no two customers are the same either. Over years of watching my father create custom jewelry, I have developed an artistic eye, seeing the natural beauty of stones & fusing metals to bring to life stories of those who walked through our doors.

My extensive experience working in customer service has taught me many things. The most important being to listen to you so I can truly meet your needs. When I joined Hendrickson’s Fine Jewelry in 2019, I knew that everything I learned in the past would be put to the test! Every day I love coming to work to tackle new challenges, learning more about the industry and terminology. The most exciting challenge for me is puttinre you’ll find me bringing your ideas and dreams to life.

You’ll hear many people describe their workplace as family, but not many are actually a family. If you’re considering expanding your family by adding a piece of custom fine jewelry, I’d highly encourage you to stop in one day, say hi, and meet our family. I guarantee you will be happy you did!

Scooter B

I am a Cotton De Tulear (part of the Bichon Frise family), aka the store mascot. I have been in the jewelry business my entire life. I started at just 5 months old. I love to greet my current friends when they come see me. Every day there are new people for me to sniff and introduce myself to. I try not to bark, but sometimes I need to make sure that my coworkers know that someone is in the store. I sleep a lot but when mom tells me to do my job, I am always happy to wake up and say hello. I love being petted and shown love and I will give the love right back to you. I am a very chillaxed pooch and I enjoy coming to work with my mom and dad every day.

In my free time…I enjoy rides to the mountains, but since I can’t drive I have to wait until mom and dad go so I can tag along. My true passion is playing in my backyard at home chasing squirrels and birds.

I look forward to being your friend. <3

Ely

Sales Manager

Hey there! My name is Ely Shiaikis, and while the Treasure Valley is now home, I’m originally from Durango, Colorado. When I’m not at work, I love relaxing and spending time with my wife and two dogs. I have a passion for being meticulous—whether I’m challenging myself with an intricate Lego build, diving into a new video game, or focusing on detailed wire repair, I enjoy work that requires focus and precision.

My professional background is rooted in service and rigorous standards. I spent nine years on active duty in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant, keeping Mountain Home AFB as my permanent station. During my service, I deployed twice and traveled all over the world. This experience instilled in me that attention to detail is non-negotiable. Providing quality customer service is very meaningful to me because I always treat people how I would want to be treated. Being kind, caring, and helpful is a must because you never know what may be going on in someone else’s world.

Although I am new to the world of fine jewelry, I am loving every minute of it! When I decided to venture out and try something new, I wasn’t expecting to find my new calling so fast. Everyone here at Hendrickson’s Fine Jewelry is super knowledgeable and incredibly talented. I have already learned so much and continue learning more each and every day. Being part of such a wonderful local family-owned business is a special opportunity that I am certainly thankful for and proud to be part of.

I look forward to meeting you and I’m excited to use the discipline, focus, and attention to detail from my military experience to help you find the jewelry of your dreams!

Jill De Witte

Sales Associate

I LOVE JEWELRY! Ever since taking my first jewelry class at 12 years old, I’ve wanted to be in the jewelry business. After working part-time in a local jewelry store through high school, and going to art school, I got my first “real jewelry job” working at the bench when my daughters were little babies. Since then, I’ve worked in sales, management, and ownership in small family owned jewelry stores. When we moved to Idaho, four years ago, I worked at a veterinary clinic until being contacted by Hendrickson’s. Little did I realize how much I truly missed jewelry, the people and… did I mention the jewelry? My husband is also works in the jewelry business as a diamond cutter. I guess you can say that, Jewelry is a family obsession!

I have two daughters who live locally and five grandkids that keep me very happy and busy on Grammy days. Our son doesn’t live locally, yet, but hopefully soon.  We have three dogs, Mason the yellow lab, Rudy the mellow basset hound, and Rita the teeny Chihuahua. I love being outside, walking the dogs, pulling weeds in the garden, and reading. My perfect vacation… a month at the beach!!!

I look forward to meeting you and helping you with your jewelry needs.

Angela Hendrickson-Barker

Hello, I am Angela Hendrickson-Barker. I am Dean’s eldest child. I’d like to say I’m the wisest, but honesty is my biggest virtue, and Sophia definitely has me beat. I really enjoyed growing up in the Jewelry store. I learned to crawl and walk in the shop. Hanging out with my Dad, my Grandma and my Gramps was amazing. I got to carve waxes, look for loose diamonds on the shop floor and spent many evenings helping invest custom jewelry my father was making.  Whenever I was at the store during open hours I was great at saying “Oohhh shiny, that’s the ring for you” as customers shopped. These were always my favorite childhood memories.

After I graduated High School and spent a few years at BSU for my undergrad, I move around Idaho and Norcal, working as a manager and coordinator at my jobs. I also, kept busy raising my three beautiful kids, who have all now worked officially for the Jewelry Store before me! I am so proud that I helped raise the next Generation of my family jewelry store. In the fall of 2024, Dad and Sarah gave me the opportunity to become a full time Sales and Design Associate here at the Store. After many years, I was nervous that I would only be good at cleaning the cases and finding loose diamonds on the shop floor. Since I have been here I have learned I can do so much more. Little did I know that my honesty and favorite saying ” Ooohhh Shiny, that’s the ring for you.” would help so much. I love connecting with my customers and showing them the Hendrickson family. When I design a custom ring or sell someone their favorite ring, I feel like I am making my family a little bigger with every customer.

I can’t wait to extend an invitation to you to join our family and help make your jewelry dreams come true.

Trinity

Sales Associate)

Howdy, It’s Trinity! I AM BACK!!!  I am the eldest granddaughter of Dean and Sarah!  I was born here in Boise, and raised in New Plymouth! I took a little break from working at the jewelry store to finish up my high school schooling and to start my college life. I grew up surrounded by gleaming cases, tiny tools, and the quiet magic of watching someone find a piece that just fits them and they connect with. I am so excited to now get to help create those moments myself. Being a part of this family business isn’t just work for me- it’s something I’m proud of and grateful to continue.  My favorite part is being able to see all the new pieces (and try them on!). It is fun watching the design process from the beginning to the final piece of jewelry.

I am excited that after starting at the store at age 15, I get to continue this career into my adulthood. You can find me at the store not just on the weekends, but everyday we are open now! Come in and let me show you that I can now do more than just help clean your rings, show you my favorite piece or wrap a gift you bought. I now get to help create a little glow for your life story. If I play my cards right I could be the fourth generation running Hendrickson’s Fine Jewelry. (Watch out Bryce and Angela). Come in and see how far I have grown and help me grow more!

Sales Associate/Engraver

Hey there! My name is Austin Shumway and I have lived in Idaho my whole life. The Treasure Valley is a wonderful place to live and I am happy to call it home. I love music and playing the drums. I have played full-time with a handful of local cover bands and have sat in with several others. I like most sports, however, baseball takes the cake! I am a huge baseball fan and love the Seattle Mariners! My wife and I even spent a full week in Seattle for our honeymoon (her choice), to watch 6 games. Yes, that truly makes me a lucky guy! We even play on a co-ed softball team in Meridian. So much fun!!

While my background hasn’t been in jewelry, I have spent 10+ years in a few different jobs where customer service is very important. Providing quality customer service is very meaningful to me because I always treat people how I would want to be treated. Being kind, caring, and helpful is a must because you never know what may be going on in someone else’s world. I love meeting new people and building lasting relationships. Making people feel comfortable and happy is what brings me joy.

Although I am new to the world of jewelry, I am loving every minute of it! When I decided to venture out and try something new, I wasn’t expecting to find my new calling so fast. Everyone here at Hendrickson’s is super knowledgeable and incredibly talented. I have already learned so much and continue learning more each and every day. Being part of such a wonderful local family owned business is a special opportunity that I am certainly thankful and proud to be part of. Fun fact! Bryce and Angela are actually my cousins from the other side of the family!

I look forward to meeting you and am excited to help you gain the jewelry of your dreams!

Jade Hendrickson

Sales Associate

Howdy! Howdy! I’m Jade Hendrickson, Dean and Sarah’s niece. I was born in Boise and raised in Cascade, Idaho. Being raised in a small town has made me a very outdoors-type of person, and having a rock hound dad and grandpa really helped. Since I was little I have always wanted to work with my family. When I would come down to the store to visit my grandparents, they would give me 10 cents for every diamond I picked up off the shop floor. Sometimes they would even let me clean a ring or the windows, as long as I didn’t use too much Windex. Watching the business grow has always inspired me to be creative with whatever I set my mind to.

My love for jewelry started with a passion for lapidary, but I never really pursued it until I left the food industry.

Once I did that, I started hard rock mining with my dad. He mined with his dad and it became a way of life for me. I managed a restaurant for quite a while, and knew I longed for a different path. I’ve worked here since December of 2020 and I’m in the process of getting my GIA certification to be a gemologist. If you had asked me then where I thought I would be today, my answer would not have been where I’m  now. I took a huge leap of faith and wound up right in the middle of my dream career. This is a place where customers become friends and friends become family. I’m blessed to be able to have the opportunity to be the only person you think of when you have jewelry needs.

Austin B

Sales Assistant

Hi! My name is Austin Barker, and I work on the CAD designs here at Hendrickson’s Fine Jewelry. I’ve been part of the shop since I was 14, almost 3 years! I’m proud to be Dean’s grandson — continuing the family tradition of creating beautiful jewelry.

I really enjoy learning new things everyday, whether it’s improving my design skills or seeing how a piece goes from an idea to a finished product. Being around my family and meeting new people through the store makes working here even more special.

Outside of work, I love playing baseball and golf, listening to music, and playing guitar and piano. I also enjoy drawing and all types of arts and crafts. I love to go on adventures and hang out with friends whenever I can. Even though I’m still in high school, I take a lot of pride in what I do and love being part of a team that values craftsmanship, creativity, and family. Come in and Let me design some jewelry for you with my family!

Mahala

Sales Assistant

Hey everyone! I’m Mahala Barker, I’m Dean and Sarah’s youngest granddaughter, and Angela’s youngest daughter (also her favorite). I’m still in school, which means you’ll usually find me here on the weekends. I’ve been coming to the store since I was a little kid but back then I’d just hang out behind the counter, “helping” my grandpa and grandma, while mostly playing with jewelry boxes and trying on everything sparkly I could find. Now I actually get to work here for real, which feels kinda crazy in the best way!!

I’m proud to say I’m the fourth generation in our family’s jewelry store! My great-grandma, great-grandpa and grandpa Dean started it all, and somehow it’s made its way all the way down to me, which is pretty awesome. It feels really special being part of something that’s been in my family for so long (and let’s be real, it’s also a great excuse to be surrounded by jewelry 24/7). I’ve always loved jewelry, the sparkle, the shine, and how every single piece has a story behind it. Plus, who doesn’t love something that makes you feel fancy? I’m just starting out on the sales floor now, shadowing my mom and learning how everything works. I haven’t sold too much yet, but I’m working on it! If you see me trying to look confident while silently panicking over what to say to a customer, just know I’m doing my best. This store feels like home to me full of memories, laughter, and love. I’m so proud of what my family created and everything they have built since. I can’t wait to keep learning, growing, and maybe one day be the one teaching my kids the ropes (but for now, I’ll stick to cleaning rings and trying not to break anything). Come say hi and test my growing sales skills!

Maarten De Witte

Diamond Cutter

Hi y’all, you can call me Mr. Jill.

The Mrs. and I moved to Boise a few years ago to watch our grandkids grow.  Luckily, I can work anywhere because I’m a diamond cutter. Did you know there are very few of us left in the USA?

I don’t work in the store but have my own workshop. I’ve been cutting diamonds from behind the curtain for Dean and Sarah for these past few years. When you bring in a diamond with a chip or break in it I am the one they call to see if it can be recut. Having a diamond cutter close by allows a faster evaluation because it does not need to be shipped to and from the store.

Point of fact, my proudest achievement is being known worldwide as the Diamond Wizard®. You’ll rarely see me at Hendrickson’s, as they say… “Nobody Gets To See The Wizard, Not Nobody, Not No How!” My specialty is not just cutting diamonds; it is turning highly technical info on the cutting of fine diamonds into plain old English.

Ever heard of the 4Cs? Well, those are only a diamond’s most basic Characteristics. How about the 4Bs, as in a diamond’s Benefits to you? I’ll bet you want your diamond to look Bigger, Brighter, Bolder, and more Beautiful? Those attributes only come from fine cutting.

Over 50 years ago, I apprenticed under 3rd-generation Master Cutter Leonard Ludel at the American School of Diamond Cutting in Gardnerville, Nevada – the first fully accredited trade and technical school of its kind in America. Since then, I’ve been a Registered Jeweler, a Certified Gemologist, and now a Vintage Certified Gemologist. I’m also a GIA Graduate Gemologist.

In the early 1990’s, I designed two new (dare I say fancy) styles of round diamonds. One is the American Bullseye, it looks just like a dartboard. The other is the American Rose Brilliant, with a rose cut top on a round brilliant bottom, it glitters like a disco ball.

I’ve shared my passion, teaching, demonstrating, and lecturing about the art of fine diamond cutting, all across America and around the world. To me each diamond is a unique 3-dimensional dynamic work of art. Its true glory shines from movement, changes in lighting, and in the eyes of the beholder. This simply can’t be captured in a snapshot, a video, or a lab report. Seeing is believing!

There are many factors which affect diamond beauty and value. Magic occurs when this beauty is expressed with the utmost intensity.

Chris Mosby

Goldsmith

I am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Idaho in 1986. I worked at a downtown Boise deli for a few years but started making silver Christmas ornaments on the side in 1988. They sold very well and led me to employment in jewelry. It was quite a welcomed change from restaurant work, so I kept at it.

I gained a great deal of experience working at a few local stores and was thrilled when I came to Hendrickson’s in 2001. I started in the diamond office but was just biding my time till a position opened in the shop. Goldsmithing is quite an adventure, and the love of the work is shown in the magnificence of the finished jewelry… be it a repair or custom, the result is quality workmanship!

Yes, working at family-owned stores is the only way to go, but at Hendrickson’s we all feel like family members, and the teamwork is exceptional!

Jim Rawlins

Goldsmith

Hey! My name is Jim Rawlins. I’m an Idaho native born and raised in Poky! I really enjoy riding my motorcycle with friends or even by myself, whatever it takes to get me out on that open road. Some of my passions include camping in my big ol’ red Chevy, fishing and anything that has to do with the outdoors.

I’ve had jobs across the board from white collar to blue collar but have been in the jewelry business for over 8 years. When I moved back from Salt Lake City, Utah I got a job on the sales floor, but I always longed to build things with my hands. So I asked a local jeweler to teach me and I just picked it up right away.

I have a very kind, fun-loving family, and I found a kind, loving family at Hendrickson’s. My last name might be Rawlins, but now I’m a Hendrickson. Come see me, and I will help you with all your jewelry needs!

Ben Moore

Goldsmith

I grew up in Boise and graduated from Borah High School in 2009. I love the Treasure Valley because it is so close to the mountains. When I am not at work I love to ride my motorcycle and hunt (mostly big game). This is my quite time. The beauty of getting out of the hustle of the city takes me to my happy place.

My wife (Courtney) and my daughter (Sauvi) are the light of my life. Courtney and I met in 2018 and it has been a love affair from the start. Sauvi was born in 2021, she has brought us so much joy! I am grateful to be her Dad. I love spending time with these 2 humans!

In 2017, I went to the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) to learn more about diamonds and colored stones. I took the entire course and graduated as a Graduate Gemologist. From there, I started learning to set diamonds. This is the part of the business that drives me. I love learning new things as a bench jeweler. I specialize in setting stones and working with the laser welder.

I look forward to helping make sure that your jewelry is in better shape than when you left it with us. I strive for perfection! It would be my pleasure to work on your jewelry.

Jordan Bennett

Bookkeeper

Hello! My name is Jordan. I am an Idaho native and have called the Treasure Valley home all my life, other than a few years up north for schooling. However, just because I’ve lived in one place, doesn’t mean that I haven’t experienced the world. I love to travel and have been to 13 countries and 12 states with hopes to see much more in my lifetime. When I’m not traveling I still like to be taken to other worlds through movies, TV, books, and video games. You could say I’m a major cinephile.

I’ve worked in a number of other industries, but my background is mostly in customer service and finance. I’m new to the jewelry business, but I am learning quickly what an interesting industry it is. For now, I love looking at the beautiful pieces and learning all about the stones and processes when I can get away from the books for a minute or two.

The store has been such a welcomed change in my life and I love the family atmosphere that is extended to everybody that walks in that door. Everybody here is so caring and great to be around and work with. I’ve seen so many people come in and leave with big ol’ smiles on their faces and know that you could be the next one!
